Scottish Open 27th June - 2nd July 2005


Stirling Swimming Club sent its biggest contingent of swimmers to the recent Scottish National Open and Age Group Championships at Tollcross. Over 100 clubs were represented at the six day event from all over the United Kingdom and Europe. Eight Stirling Swimmers qualified to compete in 34 individual events and they were joined by 15 others for the relays.

Top performer was 12 year old Stephanie Hanley (pictured) who swam superbly to win the Scottish Age Group 100m Backstroke in a new personal best time. Stephanie also qualified for five other finals finishing an excellent 5th in the 100m Freestyle,200m Individual Medley (IM) and the 200m Backstroke and 7th in the 200m Freestyle and 8th in the 400m IM.

Steven Binnie also swam well reaching four Men’s finals, finishing 6th in the 400m IM, 8th in both the 200m Breaststroke and the 200 IM and 10th in the 100m Breaststroke. Rosie Ogg had some excellent swims during the week and achieved a personal best time in the 100m Freestyle final to finish 3rd Scot and 5th overall. Craig Gillespie had good swims in six events and achieved an excellent 10th place in the 100m Breaststroke.

In the boys 13 years Martin Cremin recorded some excellent PB times in  four events, finishing 12th in both the 1500m Freestyle and the 200m Butterfly. Genna Doctor also recorded a PB time in the 13 years 100m Breaststroke to finish 22nd overall.

One of the Club Coaches Brad Hay showed the swimmers what to aim for with 5th place in the Men’s 50m Freestyle final and 8th in the 100m. Donna Adam also swam well in the Women’s 50m Butterfly and Freestyle.

Club swimmers selected to swim in the relays were Alan Brown, Kyle Bennet, Blair Dick, Duncan MacArthur, Hannah Ogg, Carol Roberts, Amy Cameron, Lauren Burns, Andrew Loudon, David Cameron, Grant Nutley, John Colvin, Kayleigh McGurk, Heather King and Ainsley Beaton. This was the first time for many of these swimmers in a National event and they all performed well for the club.
