Swimming Club had 25 swimmers competing in the two day Junior Gala on 4/5th
March. Despite a tough schedule, being poolside all day both Saturday and Sunday
and competing in up to eight events the swimmers aged 9-13 years brought back 26
medals.
Katie McKenna showed her
strength leaving her best performance to the last event of the weekend winning
the 100m backstroke with a 4 second personal best time. Indeed Katie had one of
her best galas collecting 5 medals. To add to her gold in the backstroke she was
2nd in both 100m freestyle and 100m Individual Medley, 4th
in the 200m freestyle and 5th in the 100m breaststroke. Carol Roberts
managed to hold off club mate Katie in her favourite stroke butterfly to win 4th
place. She also collected 4th in 100m freestyle, 100m IM and 6th
in 100m breaststroke.
Blair Dick also swam superbly to
win the gold medal in the 200m freestyle in a new Pb time. He had another fast
time in the 100m IM swimming below the cut off entry time for a “speeding
ticket” Blair also won silver medal in the 50m freestyle and gained 3rd
place in the 200m IM. In the same age group Duncan MacArthur swam well to get
two bronze medals in 100m breaststroke and butterfly and 6th place in
the 200m freestyle.
In the younger age group some of
the swimmers were competing in longer distances which they had never raced
before in galas of this level. Nicole Govan proved her strength to take 4th
place in the 100m backstroke and 100m IM and 5th in 100m freestyle.
Chloe Stickland was just behind in the 100m freestyle finishing in 6th
place.
Nikoline Laidlaw had a good 2
second pb to finish 5th in 100m breaststroke whilst older sister
Katrina showed both speed and strength finishing 6th in 50m `freestyle
and 5th in the longer 200m IM. James Dodds managed to get 6th
place in his favourite breaststroke whilst Daniel Morrison had a great swim in
100m IM to get the bronze medal. Rachel Bond showed her speed in the 50m
freestyle finishing 6th.
In the youngest age group Scott
MacArthur saved his best for the second day with a great silver medal in
breaststroke and 6th place in 100m IM.
Other swimmers including Hannah
Ogg, Amy Cameron, Douglas Ormiston, Kayrine Kelly, Lucy Brunton, Craig Coull,
Campbell Keith, Andrew Roberts and Mhari Dick all achieved personal best times
over the weekend.
