Central Gala November 4 - 2006

 

 

Stirling ASC takes home the Central Gala Club Trophy for the second year running.

An impressive performance from all swimmers resulted in a clear win to Stirling ASC at the Central Gala held at Grangemouth over the weekend.

Worth special mentions are from the 10 years and younger Kayrine Kelly in the 50m butterfly who with a time of 38.14 left the competition behind, first gold medal of the day for Stirling went to Kayrine.

Stirling ASC dominated the 11 year old girls group with Lucy Brunton, Rachael Bond,  Nikoline Laidlaw and Nicole Govan all coming home with multiple medals and Nicole Govan taking 3 golds and a bronze and winning the overall trophy for the age group.

The competition was fierce in the large group of 12-13 years girls, Katie McKenna had a strong day with several placings taking gold in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:05.05.

The girls 14-15 year age group was dominated by Stirling ASC with a haul of medals most evident in the 100m breast stroke where Stirling took Gold (Jade Williams), Silver (Stephanie Hanley), Bronze (Genna Doctor), 4th (Morven Bruce), 6th (Eilidh Hargreaves). At the end of the day Jade Williams and Stephanie Hanley shared the overall trophy for the age group with an equal number of individual points.

In the Boys 14-15, Martin Cremin and Andrew Loudon took home several medals.

The Boys 16 & over saw Steven Binnie, and Craig Gillespie with multiple top placings.

In the Girls 16 & over Rosie Ogg and Louise Williams found themselves competing against exhibition swimmers from the Scottish Institute the excitement was electrifying when Rosie Ogg took Silver in the 100m freestyle settting a new PB of 59.92 breaking the 1min barrier and beating two University Scholar Swimmers in the process.

The morning session culminated with the 200m freestyle relay for the 10 and under and 11 years age groups. Stirling took home bronze in the 10 and under girls with Kayrine Kelly, Mhairi Dick, Emma Davidson and Catriona Hope, in the 11 years girls age group Nicole Govan, Rachel Bond, Nikoline Laidlaw and Lucy Brunton won a convincing gold, and the boys in this age group Craig Coull, Gareth Allen, David and Fraser Allison won bronze.

The final and winning points for Stirling was the afternoon 200m freestyle relay for the older age groups. All swimmers not competing in the events were at the side line and Stirling had the loudest supporters of the day and the swimmers did not disappoint.

In the 12-13 years age group the boys Duncan MacDonald, Duncan MacArthur, David Kelly and Douglas Orminston won silver and so did the 12-13 years girls(Katie McKenna, Carol Roberts, Katrina Laidlaw and Chloe Stickland.

In the 14-15 years age group the boys Martin Cremin, Andrew Loudon, David Cameron and Jamie Purcell won a convincing gold with nearly a length to spare to the second team, setting the tone for the 3 remaining relays.

The girls 14-15 Jade Williams, Stephanie Hanley, Eilidh Hargreaves and Genna Doctor took gold, so did the 16+ boys Steven Binnie, Craig Gillespie, Jack McRoberts and Jamie Griffith and the final team relay of the day 16+ girls Louise Williams, Rosie Ogg, Megan Tully and Donna Adams completed with another and final gold for Stirling ASC.

The Stirling ASC Swimmers were truly excited at the end of the day and waiting with anticipation for the final announcement of the club points, once again it was Aloa which Stirling had to beat and this year the margin had increased to over 30 points.
