WELCOME TO STIRLING SWIMMING
The
Club was established in 1976 and is among Scotland's best having produced many
outstanding swimmers over the years. The Club is affiliated to the Scottish
Amateur Swimming Association and competes within the West District area. Since
January 2002 the club has been training at the prestigious National Swimming
Academy at the University of Stirling (photo left) where one of the very few
Olympic pools used for dedicated training purposes in the UK is located.
In April 2003
the Club was awarded Charter Club status
by Stirling Sports Council in recognition of the Club's good organisation and
working practices and in December 2003 became one of a small number of clubs
in Scotland to be granted Swimark status by the Scottish Amateur
Swimming Association.
In November of 2006 the Club was awarded club
of the year by Stirling Sports Council.
Kerry Wood
was appointed Head Coach in partnership with Stirling Council in June 2002 and
her achievements in developing the Club were acknowledged in December 2003 when
she received Stirling Council's Coach of the Year award.
Kerry Wood
(nee Martin) (photo left) has been one of Scotland's top swimmers in recent
years and developed through the junior ranks at Stirling Amateur Swimming Club.
Kerry holds the current long and short course Scottish records for the 50m and
100m butterfly and has been Scottish champion in these events since 1995. Kerry
first represented Great Britain in 1993 at the European Sprint Championships
before going on to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur
in 1998 and Manchester in 2002. Her most recent honours were silver in the 50
and 100m Butterfly at the British Long Course Championships in Sheffield in
March 2003.
We are always looking for ambitious swimmers and
we pride ourselves on being an accessible and friendly club.
